Message from the Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus on DACA
The UNC Charlotte Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus are heartbroken following the current administration’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). This decision undermines the futures of over 800,000 undocumented youth that have grown up, like those of us born in the US, as Americans. These young people have obtained driver’s licenses, work permits, are pursuing or have completed higher education and have the opportunity to enrich the lives and the economy across the US in a myriad of ways. We are pleased that the North Carolina Attorney General is one of 15 attorneys general that have joined together to fight, in federal court, the plan to dismantle DACA.
We, as faculty and staff members of the UNC Charlotte community, call on all members of our University community to stand with our DACA students, and promise to continue to work together to defend our jointly held values of access, inclusion and respect for all members of our community.
The Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus support community efforts that celebrate our diverse cultures at UNC Charlotte and in the region. The members of the Caucus work to enhance the community of Latino/Hispanic faculty, staff and students on campus.
The Caucus was first formed in Fall 2012. We have meetings throughout the academic year and encourage any Latino/Hispanic Faculty or Staff as well as anyone interested in Latino/Hispanic issues to attend. For more information please contact the current officers of the Caucus:
